SimBin Studios AB today announced the forthcoming release of GTR Evolution. Developed by the multiple award winning Swedish studio SimBin Development Team and published by SimBin Studios AB, GTR Evolution takes GT and WTCC Extreme cars to the Green Hell of Nordschleife, the holy grail of racing. Available as a stand alone game and also as an expansion pack for SimBin’s 2007 title RACE 07, GTR Evolution is scheduled for launch in 2008.

In addition to many other tracks, players of GTR Evolution will drive the modern version of the monumental track of Nürburgring Nordschleife along with the Nürburgring GP layout. Dubbed “The Green Hell” by racing legend Jackie Stewart, the track is revered and feared as the most difficult and treacherous track ever built.

“As the first PC game developer to get exclusive access to this track for reference, SimBin has been given a solid ground to work from and we hope that we will be able to give our fans a real hell, so to speak”, said Jay Ekkel with a smile, Producer at SimBin Development Team AB.

GTR Evolution for PC comes with 22 GT car models in 3 different classes plus a selection of exclusive production cars. Further to this SimBin adds WTCC Extreme, tuned concept cars based on the FIA WTCC cars.

“With rear wheel drive, extended body-kits and over 600hp the WTCC Extreme cars will give the GT cars a run for their money, said Diego Sartori, Creative Director at SimBin Studios AB.

GTR Evolution will be available as a stand alone game including all RACE 07 content, all in all 49 unique cars in 12 classes with over 500 variations and 19 tracks in over 40 different layouts including the new and legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife. A GTR Evolution expansion pack for existing owners of RACE 07 will also be available.

Scheduled for launch in 2008, GTR Evolution is distributed by Atari in Europe, Viva Media in the US and Akella in Russia. The release is scheduled for 2008 with detailed info to follow.

Simbin’s initial GTR Evolution announcement answered a few questions and left plenty of them open. Will the game have the official FIA license? The shown Corvette C6.R sports a fantasy livery so anything seems possible.

Will the game use the new Lizzard engine? And what tracks besides the Nordschleife will be part of the game?

I can’t answer those questions of course but there are a few answers at least. Viva Media’s Carlo Voelker has confirmed a few details in a recent statement. Viva Media is the game’s North American publisher, making Voelker the man to know.

“Featured will be GT series cars like the Corvette C6R and Aston Martin DBR9; plus Production Car Class racers like the Dodge ViperSRT/10 and the Audi R8.”

We´ve already seen the Corvette, the mentioning of the Aston Martin confirms another new GT1 car. My guess is that the new GT cars will be based on the 2005 FIA GT season as the scrapped XBOX GTR game was supposed to include the 2005 season. The production car class had been hinted in the statement, this adds a little touch of Gran Turismo to GTR. After all, powerful road cars should be quite fun on the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

The last bit of info revealed is that the game is support to be released in Q3 2008, giving us plenty of time to speculate about the upcoming game. Without knowing much, it’s safe to say that Simbin tries to mix proven stuff with new content. The new GT cars should satisfy old-school GTR players while the tuned WTCC and the production cars seem to be an outreach to the Gran Turismo/Forza crowd.

The game will feature 19 tracks, 40 different layouts and the infamous Nurburgring Nordschleife track, also known as the most dangerous racing track to many.

A wide array of licensed cars will be featured in GTR Evolution, such as the Aston Martin DBR9, Audi R8 GT Concept, Dodge Viper Comp. Coupe, Corvette C6.R, BMW M3 GTR, Gillet Vertigo and the Marcos Marcorelly GTC

It looks like as the planned 20th of June release for Simbin’s upcoming GTR Evolution expansion pack has been postponed a little. German Amazon lists the full game for 49,99 Euro to be released on the 27th of June.

Amazon’s Britain outlet lists the RACE07 expansion for 16.99 Pounds which equals 22€, confirming the projected price of around 20 Euros. However, the British release date for the expansion pack is listed as 30th of June. Amazon.com list’s the full version to be published by Viva Media already, giving no further information on price or release date.
